Two instructors carry the teaching load at HiLoft Digital Academy. Between them they cover front-end work, backend services, and the unglamorous parts of software engineering that most courses skip: version control habits, code review, and reading documentation properly.
Every module is written and revised by the same people who teach it, so the material stays close to what actually happens on a real project.
Lena built the module structure around one rule: no concept gets introduced without a working example the student can run the same day. She handles the programming fundamentals track, covering variables, control flow, functions, and the first steps into object-oriented design. Her background is in web application development, mostly front-end work with JavaScript and TypeScript, and she still reviews student pull requests line by line during the early weeks.
Silvia leads the software engineering side: data modelling, API design, testing, and deployment basics. She holds an engineering degree and spent years maintaining backend services where a bad schema decision costs weeks later. In the academy she focuses on the transition from writing scripts to structuring an application, including database relationships, error handling, and why a test suite is worth the time even on a small project.
Students move between both instructors rather than staying in one lane. A learner might write a small interface with Lena in the morning and model the data behind it with Silvia in the afternoon. That overlap is deliberate, because most confusion in early programming comes from treating front-end and backend as separate worlds when they share the same logic and the same debugging instincts.
Assessment happens on submitted projects: a command-line tool, a small web app, a service with a documented endpoint. Both instructors read the code and respond with specific notes on naming, structure, and where the logic breaks down under edge cases. It takes longer than an automated test, but it is the part former students mention most when they describe what actually helped them improve.

No. The opening weeks assume nothing beyond basic computer use. You will write small scripts, break them on purpose, and read the error messages until they stop looking like noise. If you have touched HTML or a spreadsheet formula before, that helps, but it is not a requirement.
Each module mixes short theory blocks with longer build sessions. You get a working brief, a set of constraints, and a review at the end where we go through your code line by line. The point is not to finish fast but to understand why a solution holds up when the requirements change.
We start with JavaScript and Python because they let you see results quickly, then move into version control, debugging tools, and a backend framework. Later modules touch databases, APIs, and deployment basics. The tooling is deliberately ordinary, the kind you meet in a real team on your first week.
Around six to eight hours works for most learners who also have a job. That covers the lessons plus the practice work. If you can only give three or four hours, you can still move forward, just at a slower pace and with fewer optional exercises.
Both, depending on the module. Solo work builds the habit of reading your own code critically. Group sessions are where you learn to explain a decision, take feedback, and split a task without losing track of who owns what. That part is closer to how software gets built outside a classroom.
